Importance of being organized during JEE Preparation

“Failing to plan is planning to fail” this saying is applicable in all walks of life and even more so for the students preparing for IIT-JEE. Every year more than 5 lakh students from all over India appear for the JEE after having toiled for the better part of 2 years, but only a handful of them are selected for admission to the IITs. A majority of the students who didn’t manage to crack the exam are sure to have read from the same books, spent equal or more hours buried in the books and were equally as committed to the cause as the students who got selected. The difference lay in planning. The ones who planned their preparation and spread the topics included in the syllabus effectively were the students who got selected. Coaching institutes considered as the best for IIT-JEE preparation always lay stress on undertaking such planning.  With a little over a year left for JEE 2018, you need to make sure that your efforts do not go waste. Here are a few advantages that you get when you organize your preparation for JEE:

1. Time Management
Time is the essence for every student preparing for the JEE and having a proper study plan in place helps you manage the time better. Apart from covering each topic, organizing the preparation also helps you take out some time for some recreational activity.

2. Full Syllabus Coverage
Having an effective plan in place ensures that you do not miss out on any topic, even by mistake. This is where your study time table will come handy. “This time table should include the whole syllabus divided into days and topics to be covered” says a professor of one of the best coaching classes for IIT-JEE in Indore.

3. Tests
Testing yourself is of utmost importance during the preparation for JEE.  This is where your coaching institute will be of help. Test series of institutes like Catalyser are almost like real exams where students encounter the real-time exam scenario, questions and competition.
4. Revision
While preparing for any exam, it is very important that you keep time for revision.  This is the most important aspect.

If you manage to manage your study plan properly, you win the half war.

Can State Board students crack IIT-JEE with good ranks?

For engineering exams, students have to write various entrance exams in order to gain admissions in universities across India. The JEE and NEET are based on the CBSE curriculum. The common question that is haunting state board students, can they compete and crack IIT-JEE?  Here is the answer:

Benefit for State Board Students: For IIT-JEE 2017, the HRD Ministry and IIT council have decided that Class 12 scores will be a crucial parameter only for determining the eligibility criteria for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE).To qualify for appearing in exam, students need to have at least 75 per cent marks. As State Board students mostly manage to get more marks than CBSE, this would be an added advantage for them. Although, the weightage system of XII marks for admissions has been dispensed with. Basically it does not matter if you are state board or CBSE board student, if you choose your coaching center wisely you will be in a level playing field. Try to find out the best IIT Coaching in India.

Think Big: To get the goal you want in life, you need motivation. The bigger your dream, the bigger is your success. Motivation creates commitment, which in turn creates zeal to just make it happen.  Every battle is first won in the mind. So, just flush off the complex that you belong to a State Board and not CBSE.

Take Your First Step: Know exactly where you stand and what do you need to get through this exam. Ask yourself “Am I ready?” Once you are mentally and physically prepared, you need to know about the examination like eligibility criteria, exam pattern, reservation policy and important dates. If you join any best IIT coaching in your town, it might give you the proper guidance, study material and methodical study.

Time Management: Time management is a critical factor in preparation of any exam so that one can get through it. Student should develop habit of writing as many as possible tests.

Dedication: Dedication and spirit both are two sides of same coin. Both work extremely well if they are in coordination. During our study on this topic most of the students we met felt at one point that they are not going to make it because of huge syllabus of entrance examination and competition. But it was the will power which made it happen. We suggest you to keep your head cool.

Syllabus Check: A lot of students study everything even it is not in entrance examinations’ syllabus. Keep the syllabus of examination on study table. Check it before you begin and after you end your studies to know how much you need to cover this day.

Negative thoughts really affects the whole study plan. Don’t let it ruin your confidence by considering yourself inferior just because you study in a State Board. Believe in yourself and say it loudly “I will make it”. Other important thing is to visualize that you have cracked the examination. How happy you are and how much proud your parents and your relatives are. This will surely boost your confidence and you will feel better.

Small-town Students and IIT-JEE

IIT coaching classes have always been criticized for being costly and mainly for being city-centric. Apart from the small town of Rajasthan which has acquired a character of being an IIT factory, most of the famous IIT coaching institutes are located in big cities of India and the list of IIT rank holders possesses more ‘CITIzens ’ than the towners .

So, the questions arise, can small town students crack IIT with the same flying colors as the city students do? Do they have to move to big cities to realize their dream? Can’t their own towns fulfill their study requirements?

The answer is – when it comes to cracking IIT-JEE, the factors like small or big towns don’t really matter. What matters is only the dedication and talent of the students- irrespective of his/her background. Super 30, as everyone knows, is a big example.

For last many years, small towns of Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand have started making their presence felt in the IITs and premier medical colleges of the country, thanks to the coaching institutes in small cities which assure to give quality training to students not only to face the tough exams like JEE and medical entrance tests but also for 12th board exams.

Director of one of the best coaching classes in Gwalior for IIT-JEE Mr. Vipin said, “Small cities like Gwalior, Rewa have immense talent but this talent is not channelized properly. Many students had to turn their ways to cities like Indore, Bhopal or Kota for IIT preparation. But now even small cities have coaching classless as good and as promising as big cities”.

There are many IIT coaching classes like Catalyser which have started their branches in cities like Nagpur, Nashik, Gwalior, Surat, Vadodara which are apparently less hyped cities when it comes to JEE selections and their students are making it to the much-sought-after list of IIT All India Rank holders.

A very small village in Gaya district of south Bihar named Bunkaron village has many success stories of cracking IIT-JEE every year. Interestingly, cracking the IIT appears to be a tradition for the Bunkaron village just because of a league of focused students of the village who gather in a quiet place in a sort of study circle, everyone studies together; everyone helps each other to reach the same destination. The village kids who have passed IIT previously help the students, provide them guidance, their notes and even study material. This is indeed an exemplary tradition.
There are numerous examples where students overcame their complexes, fears and obstacles, and worked hard to achieve their goal. Be it from a town, or a huge city with a lot of hurdles; if you are clear about your goal and your actions also speak in the same direction, then even your name could be included in the elite list of people who cleared IITJEE.

Early Bird's Guide to conquer IIT-JEE

Anirudh is a 9th class student. He has joined an integrated training programme of one of the best institutes for IIT-JEE in Nagpur. He says, ‘It’s really strenuous to manage IIT coaching and school studies but once I get used to tackle these things, it’ll be easier for me to prepare for JEE when I will be in thick of action in 11th & 12th class”.
Anirudh is better off than most other students who are taking a shot at IIT-JEE in terms of facing the pressure of cracking it.
The number of students and also a number of coaching programs start training for JEE from Class IX are constantly and significantly rising. Not just JEE, coaching programs for other competitive or entrance exams preferably begin to train from Class IX.
Make a Strong Foundation
If you intend to build a skyscraper, you require a strong foundation. The same applies to academics. If your foundation, i.e. the fundamentals of Maths, Physics, and Chemistry is weak, it will be very difficult for you to understand the topics in classes 11 and 12. The sooner you start the better you’ll perform in the exam. Hence the ideal time to start your preparation for JEE Main and JEE Advanced is when you are in 9th or early months of 10th class. According to experts, whatever JEE aspirants study in their Class 9th they should read and understand it thoroughly as this forms the very base for JEE.

Appear for NTSE, KVPY, Olympiads
If you are  (or even if you’re not) aiming for IIT-JEE, you should start attempting different competitive exams like NTSE, KYPY, Olympiads, NSO and many other exams in your school time itself. This will help in eliminating the exam fear. However, attempt these exams sincerely, only then you would come to know the exam temperament. Giving these exams would also enlarge your competition to students all across the country, and you will not be confined just to your class.  Try to find out the best coaching classes for NTSE, Olympiads and other competitive exams in your town.
Clear the Minutest Doubt
In Class 11th, pay special attention to topics like Algebra, Mechanics and Stoichiometry. These concepts form the basis for other topics and are relatively scoring.  There shouldn’t be a tiny scope for doubt in your mind about these concepts. This is only possible when you question more to get even the minutest of your queries resolved. Avoid memorizing the topics and formulae. Instead, understand the derivations of formulae and apply it while solving the problems.

Plan-Plan-Plan

Students aiming for the IIT JEE exams and they need to abide by the specific routine which will help them in preparing for the exams. It is not essential to devote equal amount of time to every topic. If a particular topic can be done in 1 hour spend the remaining time in studying the topic that is relatively tough. Before you start preparing the study plan you should know which topics deserves more time and vice-versa. Experts and also the top ranked students suggest that regular study and following the expert guidance help secure a position even amongst the top 100. There are several renowned and best coaching institutes for IIT JEE and other entrance exams, but they alone won’t do any good to the students if they are not willing to work hard.
After all it’s not solely about anyone’s intelligence. An average student can also crack JEE if he/she is sufficiently strong willed and focused. So, better start early and be absolutely equipped to handle the rising amount of pressure of studies. The mantra is: Start Early-Stay Confident.

Which is the Best Study Method? Group Study or Self

Students who are preparing for tough entrance or competitive exams like IIT-JEE, AIEEE, AIIMS, IAS, Public Service Commission, etc a have lot of pressure of cracking these. The best IIT coaching institutes of India recommend several study methods to their students. Though, having followed a planned roadmap, organized study, and time management will create your own success story.

This is indeed a highly debatable affair – Group Study Vs Self Study. We can find people backing both of these study methods. We’ll analyze in detail pros and cons of both. Whether you opt for group study or studying alone is a matter of personal choice. In one recent online survey as many as 73% of the respondents preferred studying individually, juxtaposed to remaining 27% voted for study with a group.

Studying in a Group: Advantages

Most of the students join best coaching institutes of India for preparation of IIT, AIEEE, AIIMS, etc and post-exam assessments like GD -PI. Studying in a coaching institute is more like studying in a group. Here are some advantages:

Brain Powerhouse: Group study brings together abilities of several people. When you study with a good group, you explore such tidbits you wouldn’t have discovered alone. There are situations when you need someone to correct. Verbal discussions over few concepts give a better understanding. You can see how different people solve different problems.

Cover More Topics: Organized group study would be really helpful if each member prepare one particular topic and then explains it to the group. Hence many topics can be covered in less time. Collective recall is always superior to individual recall.

Great Motivation & Interest Building: Studying alone can be boring, stressful and monotonous while studying in group is interesting and you won’t feel studying a burden. Group doesn’t let you feel sleepy.

Studying in a group: Disadvantages

Distraction: There is always a ‘danger’ of turning group-study into a social affair. There is always a threat to serous studies and concentration in group-study as distraction from the topic is always likely.

Imbalanced Group: Group study is essentially based on like-minded heads. If even one member is not in a study-mood he’ll bring distractions to the motive. If group members are non-dedicated or inconsistent, the purpose of group-study won’t be served.

Individual Studying Habits: Getting group together can be like a pack of dogs. Students who have their peculiar choices of place and time of studying cannot be a proactive member of study-group.

 Studying Alone: Advantages:

Concentration: This is the main advantage of self-study. As there are no distractions, you can independently follow your time-table and concentrate on your preparations.

Self-motivation: Only you know where you require more efforts and self-study forces you to read the entire topic where you need extra efforts. You think hard on problems and the best possible solution.

Time & Place Your Chosen: Studying alone allows you to study wherever and whenever you want and not according to others’ conveniences.

Studying Alone: Disadvantages

Tedious: Studying alone can be boring and distressful. Just reading is not learning while listening can be more gainful learning.

Limited Perspective: While studying alone, you are restricted to your own understanding. A group study gives expanded perspectives on a given subject as different people have different ways of looking at and processing it.

The Golden Mean: Use Both Methods

Adhering to two extreme ends is never a solution. The best way to prepare for crucial exams like JEE-mains, JEE advance, board exams, PET, PMT, AIIMS, AIEEE, IAS, PSC, NTSE, Olympiads, other entrances and GD PI is combining both study methods.
-       Study alone with concentration for few weeks and then plan a group session
-       Create a group of like-minded, equally dedicated buddies
-       Distribute topics of preparation
-       The group should NOT be of more than six members
-       Take a place and time of everyone’s convenience
-       Coffee/snacks should not be the distractions but a deserving short break
-    First study hard and after success, party harder.
